Precious In His Sight

Precious in His Sight

My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psalm 139:15

Monozygotic (identical) twins result when one fertilized egg divides to form two separate but “identical” embryos. Fraternal (dizygotic) twins are as different as any two siblings. But even in the case of identical twins, they are not totally identical—different fingerprints being an example. Several hundred genetic differences can occur in identical twins that may eventually manifest themselves in slight, but noticeable, ways.

In short, every human being is unique—including you! You are the only version of you God has ever made. The biblical writers understood and expressed this using pre-scientific language. David knew that he was “fearfully and wonderfully made” in his mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-14). Job knew that God had “shaped [him] and made [him],” and “molded [him] like clay” (Job 10:8-9, NIV). That “hands-on” image evokes the idea conveyed in the children’s song: “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. . . .” Never doubt that you are unique and precious in God’s sight. His eye is always on what He has made.

"Man is a creature, because he is made by God. But he is a unique creature, because he is made like God."
