March 1-7th "Pride" (Mel B)

PRIDE
Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 (KJV)

Crash.  Ouch. We heard this noise coming from the other room. The two of us ran into the kitchen only to discover our dear friend lying in a puddle of sauce that had dribbled down the now broken plate of Chinese food.  “Are you alright” we said in unison? “I’m okay, a little stunned but nothing a couple of bandages won’t cure”, she replied.  Seriously Linda, “ Are you hurting anywhere else”? I enquired. “Just my pride, that’s all”.  Immediately I blurted out , “ Doesn’t the Bible tell us that PRIDE comes BEFORE a fall”?

The sin of pride is often referred as a “Slippery Slope”. We can end up taking credit for what we have done instead of thanking God for helping us do it. Lust, envy, anger, greed, gluttony and and sloth are all bad , but Pride is the deadliest of all.  It’s the root of all evil and the beginning of sin. It leads us into other sins if we allow it to. We can become delusional, spiteful, and bitter. Sinful pride is refusing to recognize God’s sovereign role in everything. We must reflect God in all we say and do. We cannot act as if we have accomplished anything on our own.
It is not wrong to feel good about something you have accomplished as long as you recognize and admit that you could not have done so without Him.

We need to make it our goal to live for Christ every day.
◦Heavenly Father, keep me from the sin of pride. Keep me from thinking I can do things on my own without you. Help me to recognize when I fall and fail to give You the glory.  Amen.
