Listen To A Senior (Linda D)

Listen To A Senior

How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of
Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets.  33  By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions,  34  quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. Hebrews 11:32-34 NLT

This verse comes near the end of a chapter about faith, faith is important and it’s built through
our daily events both bad and good. The trials can build faith, dependence, courage, strength if
you let it. The people mentioned in this verse endured much and talking to them would be so
incredible. We can’t talk to these people right now, but there are many people in our daily life
that are often undervalued and can teach you much and help you in your daily walk. These
people are generally known as seniors – befriend one or two today.

Most nights I talk to my good friend Mary, she’s a devout Christian with deep deep faith. She’s
never been to school yet can sew clothes, suits, fancy curtains and more, can speak and read
in both English and German and is very very smart. There’s 2 things constant in each
conversation – the first is whatever is it she’s trying to achieve, she’ll tell me I TRY. That’s her
motto in life, whatever it is she needs to do, whether she knows how or not she’ll tell me I TRY.
The second is her deep trust in Jesus, she lives alone so when she needs help she prays, tells
me Jesus is her best friend, ALWAYS there for her and has never failed her .

Mary is always an inspiration as we talk about our days and our plans for the next day. It’s so
important to talk to and befriend our seniors . These people are smart, they’ve often been
where your going and have great advice. They know a lot and would love to share their
experiences with you. Give a little of your time and you'll gain so much in return - it'll brighten
both your days.

Lord Jesus,
Thank you for giving us these wonderful people to teach us and be our friend. Help us to be a
friend in return. To be your hands and feet and ear. Amen
