The Lord My Shepherd
John 10:11-16 NKJV
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a [b] hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
Shepherding was considered a low dirty job, their only friends were their sheep who were considered dumb, vulnerable, and jealous. Jesus chose this analogy, for His church, WHY – let’s look at what the shepherd does for his sheep.
Comforter when they are sick or hurt
Source of food when they are hungry
Guide when they need to know where to go next
Protector from all harm
What does Jesus do for us
Comforts us when we ask
Bible is our food
Jesus is and was our mentor
Living in God’s will we will always be safe
Jesus is always there for us and always will be. He does not change. Rely on Him today. If you want an on-earth human Jesus also gave us ‘local shepherds’ also known as pastors. Pastor Cory is an excellent shepherd. When you need a friend, a comforter, a guide, someone to talk to - Jesus is always there and waiting for you. Reach out to Him, today and everyday. He is longing for your sheep/shepherd relationship.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for being our good shepherd, for always being there to meet our needs. Help me to be the sheep you want me to be.
